So, now CityFibre have finally fixed their line I've done some speed tests. Quite disappointing so far.

I'm on the Family Unlimited CityFibre 1200Mbps but getting the following with only my laptop as a client, no one else connected:

On WIFI on the 5Ghz band I'm getting:

630Mbps UP

620Mbps Down

If I plugged directly into the router with Ethernet I get:

750Mbps UP

660Mbps Down

This is on a Asus RT-AX86U Pro

I was going to test direct into the ONT via Dial up settings in Windows 10, but CityFibre require a VLAN ID which you don't appear to be able to set in the dial up setting in Windows.

So far, the down speeds aren't much different to Virgin M500 that I was on.

This looks like a hardware issue to me, have you played with the settings in the router? IDS etc

Yeah, might be the laptop. Checking the speeds direct on the router, as someone mentioned it had the option, getting 930 down and up.

That sounds about right, what laptop do you have btw?

Doing more testing and its all inconsistent internally. Someone pointed out you can do a speed test directly on that router so I have. Then finally worked out how to get the 2.5G WAN port working. You don't have to turn dual mode on, just set the primary in there to be the 2.5G WAN port.

So now on the router direct it reports:

1217Mbps down
922Mbps up

But the laptop on 5Ghz WIFI reports:
750Mbps down
830Mbps up

Its working out what could be causing the slowness of the laptop and phone. They are the only two clients connected at the moment as I'm still testing it before moving over.

You wont get full speed out of the wifi, but you can keep changing things to see how it goes. The environment has a big effect on wifi speeds as well. What cpu on the laptop do you have?

I don't know why I posted that as I knew WIFI would be slower.

All cabled up now with the main PC.
